Aerotech, Inc. is seeking a Director of Motion Products to lead the strategic direction and daily operations of our standard motion products division at our global headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA.

Position Summary

The Motion Products division provides standard motion product solutions to various industry verticals and markets through diverse channels. The Motion Products Division Director oversees the strategic direction, performance and growth of the division at Aerotech. This Director will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and execute initiatives that drive revenue, profitability and market share for the business unit. 

Essential Functions

  • Develop and execute the Motion Products division strategy that aligns with the company's overall goals and objectives.
  • Develop and lead efforts to expand the customer base, retain customers, drive growth and explore new market opportunities. 
  • Manage and lead a team of primarily technical, customer-facing personnel
  • Develop partnerships with non-direct sales channels (distributors, reps, etc.) to advance the division's mission.
  • Develops internal systems and processes that reduce friction along the entire customer journey 
  • Collaborate closely with:
    • the sales team to align strategic and tactical efforts for new customer growth and existing customer retention/growth; establish messaging and value propositions for our motion products for selling efforts
    • business development to ensure division goals are aligned with industry and market segment goals to achieve profitable growth
    • product management to develop and manage products and services that meet the customer and market needs of the division
    • the marketing team to ensure campaigns and promotional efforts are aligned with the business division’s goals and objectives
    • the operations team to ensure products meet market expectations (price, lead time, availability, inventory, etc.) and to develop alternative manufacturing strategies, where necessary
    • vendors, outside sales channels and suppliers to create and foster mutually beneficial relationships
    • other business divisions, departments and senior leadership to guarantee customer satisfaction and success across the entire enterprise
  • Provide strong leadership and guidance to the division team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and high performance
  • Recruit, hire and develop talent within the division, ensuring the team has the 
  • necessary skills and expertise to achieve success
  • Allocate resources effectively to support the division's strategic objectives.
  • Manage and oversee the financial performance including budgeting, forecasting and P&L responsibility
  • Analyze division performance metrics and KPIs to track progress toward goals, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven decisions to optimize business operations and resource allocation
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and identify new growth opportunities
  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to understand the business landscape and to make informed strategic decisions
  • Interact frequently with customers to understand their needs and support the overall direction of the business division

  • Managerial and leadership experience, particularly within cross-functional and global teams
  • Proven ability to not only think strategically but also to tactically execute
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze data and improve strategy and tactics based on data sensemaking
  • Proven track record of success in driving revenue growth, profitability and market share
  • Strong understanding of business strategy, product and technical applications, and sales and marketing principles
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Calculated risk-taking approach to running the division
  • Ability to lead and embrace change while juggling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field required. MBA or relevant business experience preferred
  • Minimum of eight years experience in a leadership role within a business unit or technical industry
  • Minimum of four years experience in managing teams, required
  • Experience in managing and/or working with highly technical products is required.
  • Experience in or customer of the motion control and automation industry preferred.
  • Experience with ecommerce platforms and other digital tools for improving the customer experience with highly technical products preferred

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

  • Work is generally performed in an office environment
  • International travel, up to 15% of the time, is required
  • May be required to sit for extended periods of time
  • The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
